History Chapter
Our History of the Web chapter is out! This chapter is a quick, non-comprehensive history of how the web and web browsers came about. It specifically focuses on the goals and motivations that led to the web and its predecessors, because those goals and motivations actually end up influencing how browsers today are designed. Plus, the history itself is fun to discover!
This chapter started out as part of the introduction, and that tells you a bit about why I wrote it: because looking back to the original goals and motivations behind the web reminds me why I love working on web browsers. And the history makes it clear how much an individual can influence this grand project we call the web. Anyway, we ended up moving this into its own chapter because the history turned out to be too interesting, and I ended up with a whole second chapter’s worth of material. I hope you find it just as interesting to read.
